# Translate a Course Manually

Export course content for translation, then import the completed localized course.

## Manually Localize a Course

Manual localization lets you translate course content outside Parta.io. Export the course as an XLIFF or CSV file, translate the file, then import it.

Importing a translated file creates a separate localized course. Your original course remains unchanged.

### Translate Course Content

Open the project’s **Translation** tab.

Select Manual Translation.

Choose the export format and select whether to include Course contents and Interface labels, then export the file.

Translate the exported file with your preferred translation tool or provider.

Import the completed translation file into Parta.io.

Translate the course’s system labels separately. These include interface text and tooltips.

### Translate System Labels

**Labels settings** controls the course’s interface text. You can select a pre-made language or customize each label.

Open the project’s **Translation** tab.

Select **Labels settings**.

Select the required language from the language dropdown.

To customize a label, enter the required text in its table field.

### Correlate Individual System Labels

#### Course Menu

* **Tip: Open navigation menu:** Hover tooltip on the menu button.
* **Tip: Close navigation menu:** Hover tooltip on the collapse menu button.

#### Course Outline

* **Section Name: Content page:** Tooltip for the Content page section in the project navigation sidebar.
* **Section Name: Quiz:** Tooltip for the quiz section in the project navigation sidebar.
* **Section Name: Chapter:** Tooltip for the Chapter section in the project navigation sidebar.
* **Section Name: Cover:** Tooltip for the Cover section in the project navigation sidebar.
* **Section Name: Empty state:** Placeholder text for an empty section name.
* **Tip: Number of blocks:** Tooltip in the project navigation sidebar: `N blocks`.
* **Tip: Number of questions:** Tooltip in the project navigation sidebar: `N questions`.
* **Tip: Number of sections:** Tooltip in the project navigation sidebar: `N sections`.

#### Navigation buttons

* **Skip navigation button:** Accessibility link that skips directly to course content.
* **Button "Continue course":** Cover navigation button that resumes the course.
* **Start course button:** Cover navigation button that starts the course.
* **Back button in navigation:** End-of-section button that returns to the previous section.
* **Continue button in navigation:** End-of-section button that moves to the next section.
* **"End course" button:** End-of-section button that completes the course.

#### Course Completion Modal Window

* **Title in the course completion window:** Title text in the completion modal.
* **Body text in the course completion window:** Message text in the completion modal.
* **Button in the course completion window:** Button text in the completion modal.

#### Elements

* **Button:** Placeholder text for an empty button name.
* **Continue button tooltip:** Tooltip for a condition-blocked Continue button.
* **Element Embedded code:** Hint shown when the browser lacks support.
* **Element Grouping: Group:** Placeholder text for an empty answer.
* **Element Grouping: Result:** Result text: `N cards correct`.
* **Element Grouping: Repeat:** Retry caption.
* **Element Link:** Placeholder text for an empty link.
* **Element Slider: Start:** First slide in an element with the `Loop` condition.
* **Element Slider: End:** Last slide in an element with the `Loop` condition.
* **Element Video/Audio: Sound:** Volume setting label in the element controls.

#### Quiz

* **Attempts in progress in the quiz:** Label for Attempts in the progress bar.
* **Number of attempts in progress in the quiz:** `Attempt: 1 out of N.`
* **Element Keyboard Input Tooltip:** Tooltip for the answer input.
* **Item Description/Quiz Status: Quantity:** Number of attempts, such as `1 out of 1`.
* **Item Description/Quiz State: Restriction:** Unlimited quiz repetitions.
* **Item Description/Quiz Status: Time:** Text for quiz sections with a time limit.
* **A hint for the "Try again" button in the Content page:** Hint shown when quiz retries are set for a Content page question.

#### Course update modal window

* **Title in the course update window:** Title text in the course update modal.
* **Body text in the course update window:** Message text in the course update modal.
* **Button in the course update window:** Button text in the course update modal.
* **Exit course button in the course update window:** Button text for canceling the course update and exiting the modal.

#### Incomplete elements modal window

* **Header:** Header text shown when required content is missing.
* **Hint:** Hint text shown when required content is missing.
* **Button: Incomplete sections:** Button text that navigates to the next incomplete section.
* **Button: Final section:** Button text that navigates to the final section.
* **Empty state hint for modal window: course completion:** Hint text shown when required content is missing before course completion.
* **Empty state hint for modal window: section completion:** Hint text shown when required content is missing before section completion.
* **Empty state hint for modal window: all sections completed:** Hint text shown when required content is missing before all sections are completed.

#### Course loading page

* Loading text: Text displayed on the course loading screen.
